Lawr Afon
A lovely gentle walk along the banks of Afon Wygyr (the Wygyr river) - with plenty of benches!
Afon Wygyr (the Wygyr river) runs through the center of Cemaes and thanks to a team of volunteers it provides a lovely walk through native trees and plants teeming with wildlife. The main section of the walk has broad level paths suitable for buggies and wheelchairs, accessible from the main beach car park. There are also steps down to the main path opposite the Harbour Hotel and next to the Banc Cafe and Heritage Centre on the High Street. Take advantage of the many benches to enjoy the site and sound of the river or to watch the birds.
A narrow gauge railway used to run alongside the river, taking bricks from the brickworks a little further upriver to the quay in the harbour. The remnants of the track can be seen in the path on the Harbour Hotel side of the river.
If you follow the path up to the main road bridge and carry on underneath you will eventually reach the ruins of the old brickworks themselves, complete with the dramatic brick chimney. Please note that this section of the path is unmade and frequently muddy.
